PM Modi’s Suit to be Auctioned

Articles gifted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be put on auction in Surat from Wednesday, and included in the list is the monogrammed pinstripe suit that spelt out his name. The proceeds of the auction will be used for the Clean Ganga campaign, said Rajkot District Magistrate Rajendra Kumar.
PM Modi's Suit to be Auctioned
Mr Modi wore the suit during US President Barack Obama’s three-day visit to India last month, inviting criticism from Opposition parties. Neither PM Modi, nor his office had responded to the criticism.

Speaking about the auction process, Mr Kumar said 361 items will be on display for three days.

“The articles are in brass, bronze, silver and gold. These also include cloth items gifted to the Prime Minister,” Mr Kumar said.

During his stint as the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Mr Modi used to put out gifts received for auction. The proceeds were used to further the education of girls.

The pinstriped suit, which spelt his full name — Narendra Damodardas Modi – was tailored by Jade Blue in Ahmedabad, the clothing chain that handles the Prime Minister’s wardrobe and has copyrighted the ‘Modi Brand’ of kurtas.

To try the beta version of the digital locker — one of the most ambitious aspects of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Digital India programme — a user needs to create a login account at its website using his/her Aadhaar card, or unique identification   ( UID), number.

The department of electronics and information technology (DeitY), which launched the beta version on Tuesday, has invited comments from users on the government’s idea crowdsourcing platform myGov.in. Multiple attempts tocreate an account by this reporter, however, were met with “UID service is not responding. Please try again”.

The digital locker scheme envisions placing educational, medical, passport and PAN card details of every Indian in a digital form.

“Digital locker will allow you to securely upload and share your documents anytime, anywhere to authorised users/agencies. The issuer departments will also be able to automatically push the link of your document kept in their repositories,”the website says. what makes a password strong?

So what makes a password strong?

PasswordHackingTimes

PasswordHackingTimes

  • Make them long. The longer the better; 8 characters minimum.
  • Make them wacky. Use a combination of numbers, symbols and letters – upper and lower case. “4M5a1r!keting” is a lot harder to crack than “451Marketing!”
  • Change them regularly.
  • Avoid real words, as in ones in the dictionary. Hacking programs are becoming more sophisticated in their ability to go through databases of words, even with the addition of numbers and symbols
  • Avoid easy-to-guess words, even if they aren’t in the dictionary.
  • Avoid personal information including your name, company, hometown, pet name, and relatives’ names.
  • Avoid easily searchable information, such as your birthday or ZIP code.

Cyber Attack : Malaysia Airlines hacked by Lizard Squad

Update: Malaysia Airlines’ site is now up and running again.

Defaced Malaysia Airlines

Defaced Malaysia Airlines

Malaysia Airlines’ website has been hacked today by the cyber-attack group Lizard Squad, which now appears to be calling itself ‘Official Cyber Caliphate’.

The national carrier’s site shows a header that says ‘404 – Plane Not Found’, likely a reference to the loss of Flight MH370 last March and the shooting down of Flight MH17 in July. Lizard Squad hasn’t mentioned why it targeted Malaysia Airlines, but seems to imply that it has gained access to some confidential company data.

However, Malaysia Airlines says that its servers are intact and have not leaked any user data, and that it has solved the issue which appears to have been a DNS attack. The company says its site will become fully operational in about 22 hours from now, and that travelers can book flights as usual via this page.

The site also has the familiar Lizard Squad avatar, links to three Twitter accounts (@LizardMafia, @UMGRobert and @UmgChris) and a rap song that plays automatically, celebrating Lizard Squad’s achievements including its recent take downs of online gaming services Xbox Live and PlayStation Network.

While Malaysia Airlines says that it hasn’t lost any data, Lizard Squad tweeted that they have found something on the company which they will share shortly.

It’s not immediately apparent why Esports company UMG Gaming’s owner Robert Terkla’s Twitter account, along with what appears to be CEO Chris Tuck’s account, are listed on the site. Terkla said on Twitter that he had nothing to do with the attack.

Microsoft Will Provide Free Upgrades To Windows 10

windows10
Microsoft promised a new build of Windows 10 next week, and also confirmed previous rumors that the first build of the operating system for smartphones will be released in February.

If you are on Windows 7, Windows 8.1 or Windows Phone 8.1, you will be eligible for a free upgrade inside the first year of Windows 10. Microsoft made the announcement this morning at an event on its corporate campus outside of Seattle.

On stage, Microsoft’s Terry Myerson pitched Windows 10 as a service, instead of simply an operating system that a user installs. Or, put more simply, the company views the next version of Windows as the hub of its various services.

Indian Government Blocked 32 websites

Following an order issued by the Department of Telecom in India, ISPs have blocked 32 sites including Vimeo, Dailymotion, GitHub and Pastebin across the country.

Indian Government Blocked 32 websites

Users across India have complained about being unable to access the aforementioned sites and many others. Today, Centre for Internet & Society director Pranesh Prakash was among the first to share the circular that went round to local ISPs on Dec 17 demanding that they block access to multiple sites.

The availability of these sites is currently varied across the country, depending on whether the ISPs that operate in different service areas have taken action to comply with the order.

Indian ruling party BJP’s National Head Arvind Gupta confirmed the block order via Twitter, citing ‘anti-India content’ hosted on those sites from terrorist outfit ISIS:

While Gupta claims that those sites which remove the objectionable content in question will be unblocked, the block order is problematic for a number of reasons: it doesn’t clearly state to ISPs why they have to block these sites and for how long; furthermore, the blocks are site-wide and affect users who depend on these online services for work.

In addition, no statements were issued by the Indian government authorities to the public informing them of the ban until the circular was leaked today.
